Newcastle keeper Krul targets Harper place

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul is chasing Steve Harper's No1 spot.

After his fine display at Accrington on Wednesday, when he pulled off a string of stunning saves as United won 3-2 in the Carling Cup, Krul knows it is back to Premier League bench duty at Wolves tomorrow.

But the 22-year-old insists he won't wait forever.

He said: "I think I am pushing Steve more and more. I need to push, push, push and then it is up to the gaffer to make the decision. Palermo was a good start for me but that was four years ago.

"Hopefully I can now achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League which I haven't done yet.

"I am lucky. I had Shay Given and Steve looking after me at the start of my career and now it is Steve.

"He still looks after me, even though I would like to take his place as soon as possible."
