Newcastle keeper Given wants Man City move

Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given wants a move to Manchester City, it has been revealed.

The Mail on Sunday says Given's head has been turned by City's willingness to pay him a staggering £100,000 a week to take over from Joe Hart as the club's No 1 goalkeeper and, although Tottenham have made inquiries about the Republic of Ireland international, all that remains to be settled is the fee.

When executive chairman Garry Cook approached Newcastle owner Mike Ashley directly about Given, he was quoted a price of £15m for the respected goalkeeper, who signalled his intention to leave St James' Park in a statement issued by his lawyer, Michael Kennedy, last week. A fee of between £10m-£12m would probably break Newcastle's determination to hold on to a player who clearly no longer wants to be at the club he has served for 11 years.
