Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given says Michael Owen's comeback for their win against Everton was "phenomenal".

Owen came off the bench to score what proved to be the winner, despite only having hernia surgery days earlier.

"For Michael to play six or seven days after having his operation and still have his stitches in is nothing short of phenomenal," Given said.

"He's shown his willingness and obviously his great forward play as well by getting on the score sheet and we've seen that on many occasions.

"Hopefully he'll keep banging the goals in for us this season."
