Newcastle keeper Elliot hoping Krul stays fit

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot hopes Tim Krul can have an injury free campaign next season.

Elliot hardly put a foot wrong in his 17 first-team appearances last season.

But he told the Evening Chronicle: "I dislocated my elbow before and that was painful enough. The pain side wouldn't have hurt as much for Tim with his shoulder, as not being able to play.

"He's a tough lad. He's had some bad injuries in the past, but he's always been back quicker than expected. He'll have been devastated not to play over the last games of the season.

"However, he's got a great future ahead of him.

"I was gutted for him on a personal level - he's my mate, and I don't want to see him get injured because we work together every day.

"Tim did well last season. You have a small part in it training every day, and it's great to see. Hopefully, he'll be back as quickly as possible.

"I'd never want Tim to be injured, but whenever you get an opportunity, however it comes, you have to step in."
