Newcastle keeper Elliot given Ireland chance

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot is playing for a Republic of Ireland call in the final weeks of the season.

The Daly Mail says Giovanni Trapattoni has sent scouts to watch stand-in Newcastle goalkeeper Elliot who has until the end of the season to prove he can break into the Republic of Ireland team and set up a dream debut against England.

Trapattoni is currently using Millwall goalkeeper David Forde as his No 1, but he is 33-years-old and playing for a Championship side battling relegation.
