Injured Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot believes they can finish in the top six this season.

Elliot feels with Dutch stars like Tim Krul and Siem de Jong to return to the team in the new year and Rolando Aarons and Davide Santon also to come back, United can still earn a Premier League position to remember this term.

Elliot, likely to be out until January and facing more assessment on his injured thigh, told the Evening Chronicle: "We still have some fantastic players to come back. Tim is out at the moment, Siem de Jong too.

"There's no reason why we can't kick on and try to get ourselves further up the table."
