Newcastle Jets youngster Goodwin awaiting Reading decision

Craig Goodwin is waiting to hear back from relegated Premier League club Reading regarding his recent trial there.

The 21-year old left-back is on his way back from England after having his spell with the Royals extended and his agent Zeljko Susa says they are expecting to hear from the Berkshire club in the next day or two.

"It's our understanding that Craig made a good impression and he played the 90 minutes of the trial game," Susa said.

"The fact his stay was extended is in his favour and we are hoping to have an answer from Reading within 48 hours."

Reading technical director Nick Hammond indicated that the club was serious about Goodwin but was non-committal regarding whether or not he would be offered a contract.

"We wanted to have a good look at him which is why his stay was extended until the end of April after he initially came over for two weeks," Hammond said.

"This has been a serious exercise. We wouldn't bring him half way round the world if we weren't keen to have a very close look at what he has to offer.

"He's a really nice lad and he came to us highly recommended. We certainly didn't invite him here just for the sake of it."
