Newcastle Jets striker Griffiths cops two-match ban

Newcastle Jets striker Ryan Griffiths has been suspended for two matches.

The independent Match Review Panel found that Griffiths committed an offence, namely "Use of offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a match official" in the 66th minute of Sunday's 1-0 loss to Wellington Phoenix.

The minimum offence for this sanction is one match but the MRP had the authority to consider the incident as the player was sent off by the match referee, Chris Beath.

The player has until 12:00pm (AEDT) tomorrow, 1 February 2011, to accept the proposed sanction or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA Disciplinary Committee.
