Newcastle Jets are still waiting on the arrival of Chinese recruit Zhang Shuo.
The former China international is currently playing with Indonesian club Persik Kediri but reports suggest he will have to stay with the club for longer than expected.
Jets coach Branko Culina admitted it was very frustrating as the club wanted to get the striker in for one or two trial matches before the season proper kicks off on August Adelaide United.
"I don't know, I've been told conflicting things," Culina told the Newcastle Herald. "I'm just on the computer as we speak looking at the club he plays for in Indonesia and his commitments.
"I was told that his last game was supposed to be tonight, but now I read that there is another game on Saturday and then on [July] the 21st, which is contrary to what I've heard.
"We'll just wait and see.
"He's signed, we've made a commitment, but it's dragging on," he added.
"In the initial stages, his manager assured us he would be here by now, but now he's playing an extra couple of games, for whatever reason."
