Newcastle Jets sign back-up goalkeeper Young
Newcastle Jets have added a back-up goalkeeper to their squad just prior to the A-League season.
29-year old Neil Young has signed a one-year deal from Victorian Premier League club Melbourne Knights and will now be able to put pressure on Jets number one Ben Kennedy.
"Neil is a fine person and a very talented goalkeeper," said Jets CEO John Tsatsimas.
"He has obviously had to bide his time throughout his career in order to find his first Hyundai A-League contract, but we're delighted to have him on board and we believe that he will be a great asset for our club.
"It will be great to see both he and Ben Kennedy battle for the No.1 position as we embark on the new season."
Young spent 14 years at West Australian Premier League side Sorrento FC before making the switch to Melbourne said he was thrilled to make his debut in Hyundai A-League.
"It's obviously one of the most exciting times that I've had in my career," he said.
"I'm definitely up for the challenge and it should be a great season hopefully not only for myself, but for the club too."
The Jets take on Wellington Phoenix in their Hyundai A-League opening-round clash at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Sunday.

Neil Young is a liability and has a reputation for fighting on the pitch. Also has a GBH case pending after attacking a spectator.
