Newcastle Jets striker Sean Rooney look set to miss the remainder of the A-League season after injuring his knee on the weekend.
The 21-year old almost certainly ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (pending scan results) in the 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix and could be out for up to six months.
Rooney has had a shocking run with injuries in recent times and his bad luck seems to have continued with the likelihood that he has sustained a serious injury.
To add to Rooney's problem, Jets defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley hobbled off the pitch on Saturday night and is now in doubt for Wednesday's meeting with the Central Coast Mariners with a knee issue of his own.
