Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Neil Young is back in training after a horror end to last season stemming from a broken nose.
The 30-year old suffered and allergic reaction to medication when he had surgery to repair the damage, enduring three operations and losing close to 20 kilograms because he was unable to eat for weeks.
But he is now on the road to recovery and getting himself back to peak condition ahead of the 2010/11 A-League season.
"I'm back in the gym at the moment, so I've started some of that sort of training," he told the Newcastle Herald. "I've just been doing as much as I can before I start to feel sore . . . I'm back out on the golf course, too, which is nice.
"I won't be running by then but I'll be able to do weights," he said in regards to when the Jets resume training on May 17.
Young admits he doesn't want to think about the ordeal at the latter stages of last season and was just focusing on getting himself right so he can perform at his optimum level for the club.
"To be honest with you, I don't think about it anymore," he added.
"I just think about the next step. Moving forward, basically . . . I've got through it now and I'm just looking forward to this season."
