Newcastle Jets' EnergyAustralia Stadium set for turf replacement

The home venue of A-League club Newcastle Jets will undergo a turf replacement this week.

EnergyAustralia Stadium will have 4200 square metres of turf replaced after a motorcross event held there on October 16 ruined the playing surface.

Hunter Venues, with the assistance of the NSW State Government, will undertake the process with the view to fixing and improving the venue which doubles as the home ground for National Rugby League club Newcastle Knights.

"This is about getting on with the necessary works in order to guarantee the playing surface is ready for programmed fixtures at the Stadium," said Hunter Venues Chairman Ted Atchison.

"Hunter Venues seeks a longer term solution ensuring the Stadium is in its best possible state for the Jets fixtures over the coming months, and also a solution that benefits the broader use of the facility into the future for the Knights, Jets, and a range of community needs."

Removal of the damaged turf will commence on Tuesday, with the installation of the StaLok turf planned for Wednesday and Thursday.
