Newcastle Jets down Melbourne Heart

New A-League club Melbourne Heart have been beaten 2-1 by Newcastle Jets in a pre-season match in the Latrobe Valley.

English import Michael Bridges and Iraqi international Ali Abbas netted for the Jets in the first half before Heart's Dutchman Gerald Sibon got one back midway through the second term.

Heart coach John van 't Schip said he was not too perturbed by the loss and admitted his side would be better for the run.

"We had a few difficulties in the first half, but we identified key areas which were causing problems for us," he said.

"We changed it a little in the second half and the performance was much improved. We were able to play our game, use the space and we did a lot more from the wings.

"There was more clarity in the midfield during the second half, and they improved their communication as well as their positioning."
