Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culia has urged fans of the club to get out and show their support.
The Jets are currently in a difficult situation financially and need their average attendance figures to pick up or else the future of the club may be extremely clouded.
"There's a hell of a lot of people who actually follow us but they don't necessarily come to watch the game," Culina said. "I would just appeal to those people that the big brother is watching us, it is important that they support us because we are in a serious situation.
"Let's not kill ourselves, let's not think that 'oh yeah, this is just a beat up and Newcastle will be alright'."
The Jets received a bailout of $300,000 from Football Federation Australia to pay wages and stadium fees recently but Culina says that cannot be the answer if the club wants to stay afloat.
"The people of Newcastle have to ask themselves, 'do they want the football team in this town?', because it is serious, it's very serious," Culina added.
"I know one thing, if FFA doesn't see that we are desperate to have a football team in this town, we won't have a football team because who wants to put money, huge money - whether it be (Jets owner) Con (Constantine) or the FFA - into a football team that really the town doesn't care whether it's there or not."
