Newcastle Jets' Brockie hopes to return for New Zealand matches

Newcastle Jets forward Jeremy Brockie is hoping he is right to take his place in the New Zealand national team for upcoming international friendlies.

The 22-year old has missed the past two A-League games because of an adductor strain and is unsure if he will be fully fit for the All Whites' clash with Honduras in Auckland on October 9 before the follow-up match against Paraguay in Wellington three days later.

Brockie insists he is working hard to be right for the matches but is not 100% certain what will happen even though the Jets have no A-League obligations between now and then.

"I started back on the bike and hope to be running when the group comes back in on Wednesday," Brockie told the Newcastle Herald.

"While the rest will do the [Jets] boys good and refresh the mind, I want to be out there on the training paddock.

"I had a chat with [Jets consulting physiotherapist] Paul Hazell and [coach] Branko Culina, and as much as they both want me to go away and play for my country, we all agreed that if I'm not 100 per cent it's not worth risking. It would not only be harmful for the Jets, it would not do me any good for future New Zealand games if I go over there 70 per cent.

"I need to make that decision, probably by the weekend."
