Newcastle Jets' Bridges: On-pitch success eases off-field woes

Newcastle Jets captain Michael Bridges was delighted with the 2-0 winning result against the Perth Glory on Friday night.

The embattled club forgot about their financial off-field woes to record their first victory of the season and the Englishman, who netted a sweet volley to set up the win, breathed a sigh of relief after the final whistle.

"It was a big relief both on a personal level and as a team," Bridges told the Newcastle Herald.

"As a striker you are judged on goals. It doesn't matter how well you are playing or what you are doing.

"For the team, you could sense the lift the boys got.

"Everything that had gone on in the previous weeks, playing so well and not getting the results, to get the final product was very satisfying."

The Jets are still experiencing uncertainty off the pitch but the players can do everything in their power to help put things right when they meet Gold Coast United in the Week 7 midweek clash at Skilled Park tomorrow night.
