Newcastle Jets already on the case for new players

Newcastle Jets owner Con Constantine has revealed that the club are already searching for new players for next season and beyond.

After the Jets were knocked out of the A-League finals by Wellington Phoenix on the weekend, Constantine says there are already plans in place to get the club back to the heights of 2007/08 when they took out the title.

"We are already working behind the scenes, searching for players," Constantine told the Newcastle Herald.

"In the past we have left it to the end, but now we have more time and opportunity to recruit the right players to do the job.

"I can tell you now with the players we are looking for and talking to the Jets will be better positioned in the new season than the one just gone.

Joel Griffiths or Nicky Carle, personality players, to capture the people.

"Nicky has always said if he comes back to the A-League he will knock on our door before he goes anywhere else.

"But if they [Crystal Palace] put a large fee on him, we wouldn't be interested."

Constantine added that a marquee player was not necessarily a priority despite the injury to Fabio Vignaroli during the season.

"If a good marquee player comes along at a price affordable to the club we will go for him," he added.

"If one doesn't, we just have to roll the way we are.

"All the clubs who had huge marquee players didn't finish as high as we did, and we had all the injuries."
