Newcastle Jets agree to pay Knights $300,000
A-League club Newcastle Jets have agreed to pay NRL team Newcastle Knights a debt of $300,000.
The Jets were hit with the debt last month after the Knights cited corporate hospitality costs in regards to the ground they share, EnergyAustralia Stadium.
At first, the Jets accused the Knights of hypocrisy after withholding monies from the Hunter Venues Authority which is managed by the state government but have since agreed to settle the matter to avoid any legal action.
“The Jets have agreed to pay the outstanding monies and we've given them a payment plan," Knights chief executive Steve Burraston said.
"They'll make a number of payments over the next two months of which we've already received the first one.
"We're essentially a break-even club and $100,000 is a lot of money to us, so $300,000 is substantial."
