Newcastle hope to keep hold of Chelsea fullback Van Aanholt

Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton revealed he could attempt to extend Chelsea full-back Patrick van Aanholt's stay on Tyneside.

The Dutchman due to play the final game of his one-month deal at Watford on Saturday.

The manager said: "The agreement we had with Chelsea is that it was for a month, so at this particular moment, his loan period finishes after the Watford game.

"I am in dialogue with Chelsea - whether that changes slightly for a little bit longer, that's something we will ascertain, but at this moment, the agreement we had was very much until after this game.

"We have been delighted with him and we would like to think he will go back to Chelsea having learnt and become a better player than when he came here."
