Newcastle United are facing competition for Bordeaux striker Yoann Gouffran.
The Daily Mail says Toon chief scout Graham Carr recommended Gouffran as a cheaper alternative to Loic Remy, who joined Queens Park Rangers.
Newcastle are hoping to seal a deal quickly amid fears Aston Villa and Everton are also interested.
