Newcastle United have held high level transfer talks - in France.

The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle officials have been in France in the last few days to discuss moves for a clutch of potential transfer targets across the English Channel.

A party of United's top brass met agents in Paris to begin negotiations on new signings, with sources close to Newcastle confirming they have a hit list of "four or five" players they are keen on.

However, it is believed that the Magpies are hopeful of bringing in two new faces before the transfer window closes.
