Newcastle United hero Rob Lee wants Hull City boss Steve Bruce to succeed Alan Pardew as manager.

Lee wrote in the Evening Chronicle: "I want Steve Bruce to become the next manager of Newcastle United.

"There. I've said it. I don't expect everyone to agree, but for me he is the ideal candidate.

"And I would love to see more ex-players involved in all aspects of the football club in this, hopefully, new era.

"Does that mean I would be interested? Absolutely. I would give anything to play a role at Newcastle. It's my club and I love everything about it.

"Although I am not expecting a call any day soon from Mike Ashley."
