Newcastle United hero Rob Lee fears they won't open the chequebook next month.
Lee wrote in the Evening Chronicle: " ... at this stage it would be nice to think they would spend a bit of money in January in order to sustain that challenge into the new year.
"Sadly, though, I don't think they will - something that is a massive shame because this season is a massive opportunity for one team to cash in on a top-four slot.
"A top-10 finish is probably what they will get this season - even if they have dreadful run I think that seems to be what is on the cards for them.
"The top four, without a spend, could be beyond them."
