Newcastle United fullback Danny Simpson 'did an Odemwingie' last Thursday as he attempted to push through a deal with Wigan Athletic.

The Daily Mail says Simpson was close to a move to Wigan Athletic, but the move broke down with the player on his way to the DW Stadium.

Fortunately for Simpson his mad dash and U-turn was not caught on camera, unlike West Brom forward Peter Odemwingie's visit to QPR.

Wigan were in the market for defensive reinforcements on deadline day - they also looked at Tottenham's Adam Smith, who is on loan at Millwall - but the deal fell through after the clubs could not agree a free.
