Newcastle United fullback Jose Enrique insists he's not moving to Liverpool for money.

Enrique says his £6million switch from Newcastle to Liverpool is all about glory - not cash.

The Spanish left-back, who hopes to complete the transfer after his medical yesterday, said: "My move is purely dependent on the sporting opportunity - not money.

"I want to fight for titles and I think it more possible to do that with Liverpool than Newcastle."

Enrique, 25, joins Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and back-up keeper Alexander Doni at Anfield.

He has been Kenny Dalglish's No 1 target for the Reds' problem position since Gael Clichy opted for Manchester City.

In January, the Spaniard was fined two weeks' wages for criticising Newcastle's transfer policy on Twitter in the wake of Andy Carroll's £35m departure to Anfield.

Enrique, who turned down £50,000 a week to extend his Toon contract, added: "I prefer not to comment further on that. But Newcastle did promise to solve my situation before the season and this has happened."
