Paul Dummett has made a U-turn and is now ready to represent Wales as nation's first squad defender.

The Newcastle fullback declined head coach Ryan Giggs' invitation to join the side last summer but now wants to become a part of it.

"I never really had many chances to play for Wales, but it is something I am keen to do," Dummett said. "I came along in the past, but it was at a time when I wasn't playing and was picking up injuries.

"I felt like it was the right time not to come and play, and concentrate on playing for my club."

The 26-year-old could make his comeback against the Republic of Ireland in next month's start of the UEFA League of Nations.
