Newcastle forced to wait to rubberstamp Tiote signing

Newcastle United face a wait to see Cheick Tiote in action.

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has revealed Tiote's move from FC Twente - the Ivory Coast star is awaiting a work permit - is unlikely to be completed before Saturday's Premier League game at Wolves.

He told The Journal: "An agreement has been made and we're very close to finalising other aspects to push it through.

"He's a quality player, a defensive midfielder and with Alan Smith being the only one of that type that we had in that area, it gives us good possibilities to move things around and strengthen the squad.

"So it's one we're very much looking forward to pushing through, not for the weekend but we're very positive it'll be pushed through very soon."
