Newcastle United will have to wait if they want to sign Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia.

The Evening Chronicle says Toon boss Sam Allardyce has identified Hyypia as the experienced defender he wants to bring on the likes of Steven Taylor.

But Hyypia still has 12 months to run on his contract and he will not be allowed to go until Rafael Benitez gets in somebody to replace him in the Liverpool squad.
