Newcastle United players and staff fear Alan Pardew is fighting to keep his job.

The Sunday Mirror says Pardew is the bookies' favourite to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season.

His position was thrown into doubt in the summer, when owner Mike Ashley appointed Joe Kinnear director of football.

Kinnear has insisted he is no threat, but that has not fully allayed concerns within St James' Park.
