Newcastle United fear they may be priced out of a deal for Saint-Etienne star Bafe Gomis.

The Evening Chronicle says Gomis had been watched on a couple of occasions by United's scouting team and last weekend boss Kevin Keegan went to France to have a look himself.

But Gomis' price will have gone up over this weekend after he was selected for the first time for the full French squad for their pre-Euro finals training camp - in preference to the 30-year-old Juventus striker David Trezeguet.
