Newcastle fans confirm clash with Carver at Southampton

Newcastle United away fans are seeking compensation after their thrashing at Southampton.

The Evening Chronicle says fans have asked for compensation following Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Southampton, during which assistant boss John Carver was involved in an exchange with the Toon Army.

Carver allegedly swore at supporters after objecting to a 'Pardew Out' banner they had unfurled in the away end.

United fan Marc Kerry was among the Geordie following at St Mary's and said: "We had a protest banner and had put it at the front (of the away section).

"I went to get burgers and when I came back Carver was there. He told us we shouldn't be protesting.

"I shouted back that we could protest if we wanted to and he shouted at me again.

"Stewards then asked us to take the banner down - which we refused to do as the banner was not in anyone's way, was not offensive, and as we have a right to protest."
