Newcastle United almost were forced to abandon their friendly against Darlington due to their own fans.
The Sun says more than 2,000 travelling Toon supporters spilled on to the pitch to celebrate Sammy Ameobi putting Alan Pardew's men two goals up early in the second half at North-East neighbours Darlington.
But things soon turned sour with Ameobi and his Toon team-mates forced to sprint for safety as the pitch was engulfed by marauding fans.
Hundreds of them ignored sustained tannoy pleas to return to the stands - or risk the game being called off with Newcastle 2-0 up after Joey Barton's first-half strike.
Play was held up for 10 minutes as police and stewards struggled to clear the playing surface with minor scuffles breaking out.
Pardew, whose side won 2-0, said: "It's regrettable and not what we want to be talking about from the first game.
"Initially I thought it was good-natured but a few idiots spoiled it for the majority of fans."
