Sevilla centre-back Cala is being linked with Newcastle United.
The Journal says Cala, full name Juan Torres Ruiz, is out of contract at the end of the season and the Spaniard fits the Magpies' blueprint perfectly.
If they are able to strike a bargain deal, Newcastle will make a move, opening up the possibility of Steven Taylor moving on, with Crystal Palace and Stoke City interested.
