Newcastle United are being linked with Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar.

The Evening Chronicle says Toon boss Kevin Keegan and Terry McDermott had a look at Rangers centre-half Cuellar last season, and he certainly looked the part in helping Walter Smith's side to the UEFA Cup final.

Cuellar's salary will be relatively low compared to the big money on offer in the Premier League - which may appeal to United owner Mike Ashley, who wants Keegan to reduce his wage bill.
