Newcastle United and Everton are battling for Wigan Athletic left-back Leighton Baines.

The Manchester Evening News says Wigan bosses report no official bids at this stage but offers are imminent.

Baines, who is viewed by many as the best uncapped left-back in the country, is strongly tipped to move on.

He is high up on Sam Allardyce's wanted list at Newcastle but Everton boss David Moyes has been closely monitoring his progress since he broke into the Wigan first team as a teenager.
