Newcastle encouraged by Slimani international omission

There is a slight chance Islam Slimani could finally make his Newcastle United debut.

The Leicester City striker is on loan at the Magpies until the end of the season. But he is yet to make an appearance since arriving on Tyneside in January.

And Algeria's decision to leave Slimani out of Thursday's friendly win over Tanzania increases the likelihood of him recovering from a thigh injury in time for next week's match against Huddersfield Town.

Rafa Benitez has recently stated that Slimani will not walk into his side due to the form of his other strikers.

If Slimani isn't able to get up for the match, he will have to wait until April 15's meeting with Arsenal as he will be unable to play against Leicester on April 7.
