Newcastle United failed to send any big-name representatives to a Prince's Trust charity dinner.

Not one player, coach or member of management staff turned up at the Gateshead Hilton to help raise thousands for disadvantaged North East kids, says The Sun.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland sent a strong selection of stars including the likes of Stewart Downing, David Wheater, Gareth Southgate, Anton Ferdinand and Craig Gordon.

And a Magpies source said: "It was embarrassing. Every other club turned up in force with loads of players."
