John Carver suggests things have to change in the psyche and make-up of the Newcastle United players.
Carver deployed a fairly experienced eleven for Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby at Sunderland but the effort was simply not there as the Magpies lost 1-0 to fall to a fifth consecutive derby defeat.
Speaking of the harrowing losing streak to their arch rivals, Carver suggests that something in the playing group needs to change in order to arrest that negative run as well as their poor recent form in the Premier League.
"There's something in the DNA because we have had different managers, but we have had almost the same group of players," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"There are a lot of those players who have had experience - and I did talk about it before the game - but there are not many 'W's next to their names.
"We seem to have a problem when we have to compete, and it's something we need to address. We have talked about addressing that in the summer, and that's something that we need to do."
