Newcastle match-winner Jamaal Lascelles has revealed that he received a personal call from manager Rafa Benitez before the 1-0 win at Swansea City on Sunday.

The Spaniard manager didn't travel with the squad to Wales as he continues to recover from an operation.

Magpies skipper Lascelles was the unlikely hero on the day as his second-half header clinched all three points for his side.

"He rang me this morning and said make sure the boys are on it and start well," the defender told Sky Sports. "He was there watching and hopefully he is back soon and can join us."
