Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has welcomed Gio van Bronckhorst's appointment at Feyenoord.

The former Arsenal star was named head coach on the weekend.

"A good choice and fantastic for him. Quite surprisingly, I did not expect it, but I just found out," said Janmaat.

"Before I had counted on Van Gastel, but I heard that Gio was a great candidate. Nice for him. I see him as a head coach, he obviously has had a fantastic career, has a lot of experience, I think he has the capacity to be a good head coach. "
