Newcastle defender Dummett receives death threats over Suarez injury

Newcastle United fullback Paul Dummett is receiving death threats over Liverpool striker Luis Suarez's knee injury. The Uruguay forward underwent knee surgery yesterday as he battles to make the World Cup.

The Evening Chronicle says Dummett has been sent a series of threatening messages on social media after it emerged the Liverpool forward is in a battle for fitness to appear at this summer's tournament in Brazil.

Uruguay fans believe Dummett's challenge on Suarez in the final game of the season is the cause of the surgery he has undergone which threatens his place at the World Cup.

Dummett said: "The challenge was inadvertent.

"I hit the ball with my left foot and he went down under the challenge.

"I hope he makes the World Cup because he is one of the best players in the world so he should be there.

"Having said that, I injured my meniscus three years ago and I was out for three months so it will depend on the injury and exactly where it is on the knee."
