French club Sochaux are hoping Modibo Maiga focuses fully on them now his mooted move to Newcastle United fell over.

The 24-year old Mali international had been chased by the Magpies for some months but a proposed January move did not go ahead because of concerns over his fitness.

Now that Maiga won't be heading to Newcastle, chairman Alexandre Lacombe wants him to give his all to Sochaux.

"In his commitment levels, I have noticed a big change," Lacombe told L'Equipe.

"We rely on him and we now have a common interest."
