Newcastle convinced prising Carroll away from Liverpool

Newcastle United remain confident of bringing Andy Carroll back from Liverpool. Carroll has flown out to the US to join Liverpool's tour.

The Telegraph says Newcastle United have no intention of meeting Liverpool's £20m asking price for Carroll, but still believe they have a good chance of signing the striker.

West Ham United are also interested and will hope the fact Carroll shares an agent, Mark Curtis, with the Hammers manager, Sam Allardyce, and captain, Kevin Nolan, will assist their own effort to sign the most expensive British player in history.

Newcastle, though, feel their offer of a season's loan with the clause of a £13m permanent deal at the end of it is as good as Liverpool are likely to get for a player who wants to come back to them.
