Newcastle United are confident of signing Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong.
The Telegraph says Toon are quietly optimistic about their hopes of signing De Jong.
The club were initially rebuffed when they asked if they could take De Jong on loan - their preferred option as it will enable manager Alan Pardew to see how suited De Jong is to English football before they hand over a significant transfer fee - but they are locked in talks with the German club and are hopeful a compromise can be reached.
