Newcastle United have made a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle have enquired about Veloso, who is subject of a bid from Bolton.

The Portugal star would cost at least £12million and there is doubt as to Newcastle's ability to pay that much in view of Joe Kinnear's claims that club owner Mike Ashley has lost £2bn in the credit crunch.
