Newcastle United assistant boss Terry McDermott believes Liverpool can win the Premiership this season.

The former Reds midfielder told liverpoolfc.tv: "I still keep a close eye on Liverpool. I want Newcastle to win something but, being realistic, at the minute we won't win the league. That will take a bit of time.

"Liverpool, though, do have a chance and nothing would give me greater pleasure than that. I think they have a great chance this year.

"It's been too long. Seventeen years - that's frightening.

"Please God let it be this year - though after we've beaten them this Saturday, obviously."
