Newcastle coach Culina sure Vignaroli can overcome roughhouse tactics

Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina is confident marquee man Fabio Vignaroli can overcome rough tactics used by opponents.

The Italian playmaker was subject to some roughhouse treatment from Perth Glory on the weekend and has pulled up extremely sore, leaving him in doubt for Sunday's clash with Gold coast United.

Despite the poor treatment, Culina is sure that the 33-year old can handle the extra focus placed on him.

"They had a good go at him at times," Culina said.

"He has recovered reasonably well, but it will take a couple of days before he is back on the training paddock.

"If that is what clubs choose, so be it. We have to deal with that situation. Fabio is good enough to overcome it.

"But for the sake of football, I would much rather clubs use a tactical approach to negate good players than the physical aspect."
