Newcastle United have offered the job of manager to current caretaker boss Chris Hughton.
With the impending sale of the club likely to be put on hold by owner Mike Ashley, the Magpies are keen to stabilise on-field proceedings and install Hughton as the man to continue leading at St James' Park.
Newcastle are currently second on the Championship table after their loss to Nottingham Forest on the weekend, prompting Ashley to offer him the job despite fans wanting former star striker Alan Shearer to be re-hired.
Hughton said the offer was a nice reward for his hard work.
"I've been in Newcastle long enough to recognise what Alan Shearer has done for the club and for this city," Hughton said.
"Any offer to myself is in recognition of the work I have done and that would be my only focus."
