French midfielder Romain Amalfitano is close to an agreement with Newcastle United.
The Daily Star Sunday says Reims ace Amalfitano, 22, a free agent, has been watched by the Magpies, who have signed Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid from French sides in the last 18 months.
Amalfitano is expected to agree terms in the coming weeks.
